Eddie McCoven is a passionate creator and performer of the written, visual and performing arts.
He is a graduate of Pacific Lutheran University in Tacoma, WA, with a Bachelor of Arts in Communication, cum laude. His area of study was in Public Relations and Advertising, with a minor in Business Administration. Additionally, Eddie studied journalism, intercultural communication as well as conflict and negotiation. He is a member of the university’s Pinnacle Society.
While at PLU, Eddie played an active role in the convergence of student media outlets, most notably through his work with Mast Media and LASR (Lute Air Student Radio) as Program Director and Executive Producer of 5 hours of news and talk content driven radio programs. He was also the creator, producer and co-anchor of “The Radio Hour,” a 60 minute news and talk program. Additionally, Eddie was a News and Opinion writer for The Mast newspaper, assisted with Mast TV, and was a member of the Mast Media editorial board. Eddie also worked at public radio station 88.5 KNKX FM (formerly KPLU) where he was part of the member relations and development department, but from time to time, he could be seen in the on-air studios shadowing notable jazz hosts Dick Stein, Robin Lloyd and Mary McCann, picking up the tools of the trade from these long time pros.
Eddie’s time at PLU was also filled with music and ministry. He sang with Choral Union, University Men’s Chorus and the Chapel Choir. As a ministry assistant to the Interim University Pastor in the Office of Campus Ministry, Eddie helped to coordinate chapel and other ministry activities.
A native of Southern California, Eddie is also an honors graduate of the San Diego Community College District in San Diego, CA, having earned an Associate’s in Information Systems from San Diego Mesa College and an Associate’s in Business Management from San Diego Miramar College. He was also an active member of Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society.
